Assessing Students

The LPS assess all students on entry using information provided by their referring school and by requiring all students to undertake a NCFE (previously Forskills) on-line assessment in the core subject areas of English, mathematics and ICT. This information is placed onto a tracking sheet which is updated regularly throughout the academic year.

Teachers combine teacher assessments with further NCFE assessments in order to track individual student’s progress over time. Typically, students are re-assessed every 6 weeks and on exit, whichever occurs sooner.

Although all assessments are based on functional skills testing the LPS is able to translate these assessments into equivalent National Curriculum and GCSE levels.  In all subject areas assessment information is used to set individual lesson objectives for all students and to measure their progress against these objectives over time.
