What is World Book Day and why is it so important?

Reading for fun is the single biggest indicator that a child will grow up to enjoy a happier and more successful life – more than their family circumstances, their parents’ educational backgrounds or their income.

But here’s the challenge, it’s at an all-time low, with only 1 in 3 children now saying they enjoy reading. We believe children are more likely to read if they enjoy it, so we’re on a mission to encourage them to see reading as an entertaining, social and fun thing to do. We want more children to grow up with a life-long, life-changing habit of reading for fun, and all the benefits this brings.

Our mission is to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own.https://www.worldbookday.com/about-us/

Here at Leicester Partnership School we also believe in the same mission. As you can see from the gallery of great photos below, the theme of our World Book Day was Diary of a Wimpy Kid with some of our staff members wearing some amazing costumes. There were also chances for students to win cinema tickets and other prizes.
